What is DSST®?
DSST stands for Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology. This is a tire technology that allows driving to continue under certain conditions, even after a loss of tire pressure. DSST tires incorporate special reinforcements into the tire, which allows the tire to support the weight of the vehicle for up to 50 miles at speeds up to 55 mph.
Because of these capabilities, if a DSST tire loses its inflation pressure, the driver may not be aware of such a loss and may continue driving for extended distances at high speeds.
SAFETY NOTE: In order to prevent this abuse of the DSST tires, a special tire pressure monitoring system must be installed on the wheels of any vehicle onto which DSST tires are fitted. The pressure sensors will warn the driver if inflation has been lost so the driving speed can be reduced and the vehicle can be taken to the nearest authorized DSST service location. A pressure mounting system may be installed as OE on a new vehicle or may be purchased separately. Many Dunlop retailers can provide expert diagnosis and repair.
